Naylor is also LEED certified and has helped facilitate the construction of two new LEED transit-oriented developments, with another eight LEED-certified developments on the way. “What we’ve always looked to do on every development is do a little bit more than we need to,” Naylor says. “Whether that’s LEED certification or urban gardens or transit-oriented development, we’re constantly looking to enhance the amenities and lifestyle.” The emphasis on amenities and lifestyle has shown up in a number of ways. Under Naylor’s leadership, Carlisle launched a pilot community garden program at Dixie Court Apartments in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The new initiative helps reduce family food expenses for residents living in the community and brings fresh produce to urban environments. Naylor is also a proponent for the Step-Up program, which helps local residents with a criminal past gain the job skills needed to become self-sufficient.

With that background, it’s easy to see why Greer approached Naylor to become COO earlier this year. “The biggest thing Ken has accomplished since joining us is growing as a manager,” Greer says. “The biggest accomplishment is making that hard leap from a doer to a person who helps others do tasks more efficiently with greater insight.”

Ultimately, the decision to take the job was easy for Naylor. “I love the company. I love the team we built over the years,” he says. “Continuing to grow here was the only career path I had my eye on. I want to lead Carlisle to continue to do smart deals, be a good partner, and be a good citizen in the community.”
